Hot Zaddy

Hot Zaddy

Think of a Hot Zaddy as an Hot Apple ToddyIngredients include: warm apple cider, lemon juice, cinnamon, honey, bourbon and fresh slices of apples and lemons. This is the perfect warm seasonal cocktail to cozy up with your special somebody (aka zaddy) on a cold winter night.

So the other day I went to go look up what the word zaddy meant. Sad right? I had a general idea of what it meant but I was watching tv and heard it used in a few different contexts and got confused. So I decided to do a little research just to make sure I was using it right. That’s when you know your old age is kicking in.

I, of course, went to urban dictionary to see their thoughts but I really loved the definition from jezebel that says:

zaddy is a guy you look at and think, zamn, zaddy… Immediately, you know in your heart who’s not a zaddy. It’s an instinctual response that’s not worth explaining in depth because you’re supposed to just feel it. The subject is not merely conventionally “hot”—he’s a zaddy …

I read that definition and immediately it all became crystal clear. A zaddy is a hot guy you want to cozy up to and call daddy (wink wink – you can draw your own conclusions from there). After all that all I knew is I wanted to cozy up to cocktail so I thought, what would a drink look like that made me say ZAMN ZADDY?! LOL. It would have to warm to the point of steaming, spicy with a little kick, and it would have to look sexy, I mean drop dead gorgeous.

From there I jumped in the kitchen and got to work. My favorite seasonal cocktail is a hot toddy so I thought I’d do a twist on it by adding piping hot apple cider with fresh cinnamon, honey, lemon juice and fresh sliced apples and don’t forget the bourbon.

I took a sip and melted, “this is it!” I can’t think of a better translation. Move over hot toddy, the hot zaddy is in town. Doesn’t it sound like it should be a drink any way? I’m definitely trying to make this a thing. So when you all go out ask for Hot Zaddy and coach the bartender on how to make it.

But if you want to make it at home it’s a few simple ingredients with big flavor and finesse. This simple cocktail is perfect to warm up to on a cold night and will definitely be on regular rotation November through December. I hope you agree. Enjoy!

Bold Drinks = Men Magnets

Last month was my birthday, which is usually a big to-do for me. But this year it was pretty low key. To be honest I didn’t even remember it was the big day until my bestie wished me a happy birthday. Sad right, I know.

Needless to say, I didn’t have much planned but she and I eventually made it out to a really nice rooftop bar in the Lower Greenville area of Dallas called HG Supply Co. The environment is vibrant and busting with young professionals. The icing on the cake is its picturesque backdrop of the downtown Dallas skyline.

A Kentucky Mule is the perfect summer drink with aromatic mint and a kick of spice from ginger beer. Beyond refreshing!

In the midst of a very crowded space we were able to find two seats together at the bar and we just knew that was a sign for a good night to come. Ummmmm, so we thought. Instead we were bombarded by two jokers who made their way into our conversation by complementing our bold beverages. Somehow they ended up completely monopolizing our conversation and ruining our good time.

What first seemed like a last ditch effort to get our numbers ended up with one of the guys eating all our appetizers (without asking mind you), the two of them arguing with each other over who runs their company (nonsense), followed by the hot tempered app-stealer storming out the bar and the other crying to us about his fight with his girlfriend’s family. Like literally crying.

I really don’t know how we ended up becoming relationship therapists on my birthday night out. How do you go from flirting with two hotties (that’s us) to asking for advice to impress your girlfriend’s family? And can you believe the crying guy still asked for my number?  I was dead on contact. I’m pretty certain that the internet and social media is to blame for all the whack “come on” game these days.

Nevertheless, “group nights in” are becoming more and more attractive. I love a good Kentucky Mule at the bar but I may only order this bold beverage at home to keep the flies away, if you know what I mean. If you are not much of a whisky drinker but want to give it a try, this is a great transitional drink.  The mint in the recipe makes it bright and refreshing while the ginger beer adds a nice spicy kick at the end. I absolutely love this drink during the summer. Plus it is fun to make (if you watch the video you will know why). LOL. So give it a try and remember to tag @MeikoAndTheDish on all social media when you share it.

Easy Coconog Shot

Easy Coconog Shot

How many of you know that the ingredients used to make ice cream are the same ingredients used to make eggnog???

MIND BLOWN RIGHT?

Y’all know I am here for a good shortcut and I couldn’t let the season go by without hooking #TeamGreedy up with good one. That being said, all of us have a carton of ice cream in the fridge which means we have access eggnog in just minutes.

WE CAN NOW remove one item from that extensive grocery list and maybe get out of those holiday grocery lines a little bit quicker. So no more separating eggs and whisking into a custard for me (“from scratch” eggnoggers will know what I’m talking about).

And seriously, how many times have you purchased a bottle of eggnog only to see it still sitting there long after the holidays have come and gone? [HAND RAISED HIGH] At least this way you can make it self serve by the glass with no waste. Instead, we should all be using this holiday shortcut using French vanilla for homemade spiked eggnog which only uses 4 ingredients and is done in 4 minutes.

And below, because I’m feeling generous, I’m also sharing 3 more recipes using 4 ingredients for a total of 4 WAYS you can doctor up your homemade, no hassle, eggnog. I started each recipe using the French vanilla ice cream base that you see in the video above. So simple, so easy.
